WHAT IS A MARTINGALE COLLAR? The primary distinction between a martingale collar and a regular collar is that the former tightens when a dog pulls. The purpose is not to choke the dog, but to prevent it from escaping the collar. Many dogs have heads the same size or smaller than their necks, and with a regular collar, they may be able to slip out when backing up. With a martingale collar, when this happens, the collar tightens and prevents the dog from slipping out.

PROPER SIZING Our martingale collars are measured when fully extended. When measuring your dog's neck, please measure the top portion, pressing down through the fur to get an accurate measurement. Most people do not do this, leading them to order a size that is too large. When the collar is on your dog, the metal pieces at the ends should not touch. The nylon portion attached to the D-ring should be extended. If you pull on the D-ring and the collar does not tighten, then the collar is too large and must be adjusted smaller.

GREAT FOR TRAINING A martingale collar also tightens if the dog is pulling on a leash. You can give your dog slight corrections, and it will respond much better than with a regular collar.
